DIGITAL MOTION X-RAY (DMX)
• 50% of all whiplash injuries
end up with chroni pain.
• A leading reason for chonic pain is ligament damage resulting in joint instability.
• DMX diagnoses this
most common whiplash injury
not seen by MRI & CT.
Alaska Back Care Center is not only equipped to help you with your rehabilitation, but we have the DMX equipment used to assess one of the most common injuries that can go undetected with regular x-ray or even MRI.
How DMX is Different
Other methods of imaging, such as plain film x-ray and MRI, are still pictures in time, which makes it difficult to see if something is stable or not. Simple physics states that if you want to see if something is stable, it is best to see it in motion.
The DMX does just that.
How DMX Works
The DMX is basically a moving x-ray video which allows us to better detect whether something is stable or not. These instabilities are permanent, progressive, and painful, and proper diagnosis leads to proper treatment to manage these injries.

Whiplash Facts
A recent study by Drs. Freeman and Croft shows that 45% of people blame a car crash for their cronic neck pain and disability. Car manufacturers try to reduce injury with whiplash prevention seats and energy absorbing bumpers. Although these efforts reduce the "extrinsic" risk factors in a crash, in low speed crashes, the "intrinsic" risk factors (awareness of the crash, position of the occupant, pre-existing spinal conditions, etc.), are the greater determining risk factors for injury.
Whiplash and Insurance Companies
Whiplash injuries can occur in high and low speed crashes. Statistics show that about one third of low speed rear-end crashes results in whiplash injury, and about one half of these inured never recover.
Despite the overwhelming research, insurance companies often deny whiplash injuries beyond a grade 1 (mild muscle strain), especially in low speed crashes with little or no damage. However, epidemiological research found that at least 25% of all known cervical disc injuries occur at speeds between 6-10mph.
Not only does Dr. Matthisen's involvement in whiplash researach ensure the latest in diagnosis and treatment, but it also elps patients in the legal realm set the record straight when dealing with unscientific medical opinions used by insurance companies.
